Eligibility criteria is different for different education system.

PAKISTANI SYSTEM OF EDUCATION

Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) in pre-medical group with a minimum aggregate of 70%.

O-LEVEL AND PAKISTANI HSSC SYSTEM OF EDUCATION

Candidates must have satisfactorily completed Ordinary Level (O-Level) with at least six subjects including English, biology, chemistry and physics.

Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) in pre-medical group with a minimum aggregate of 70%.

BRITISH OR EQUIVALENT ADVANCED LEVEL CERTIFICATES OF EDUCATION

Candidates either applying from Pakistan or overseas must have satisfactorily completed Ordinary Level (O-Level) with at least six subjects including English, biology, chemistry and physics.

Advanced Level (A-Level) with minimum “B grade” in each of the three subjects. The subjects must include biology, chemistry and physics. Candidates studying or applying from overseas may also apply with mathematics in lieu of physics.

Additional requirement for students studying / applying from overseas

To meet Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) requirements, candidates applying / studying in the British system or equivalent (overseas) must submit in addition to the equivalence certificate, the SAT II (subject test) in biology, chemistry, and physics/ mathematics upon selection. The PMDC minimum requirement is 550 in each subject.

AMERICAN AND CANADIAN HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

Candidates applying from Pakistan and overseas must present evidence of satisfactory completion of the High School with a minimum CGPA of 3.25 on a 4-point scale or equivalent, 85% or Grade B as assessed by their home institution.

Candidates must have studied biology, chemistry and physics at High School level (from grade 9 through 12). Candidates studying or applying from overseas have an option to apply with mathematics in lieu of physics.

Candidates applying from Pakistan and overseas must submit SAT II (subject test) in biology, chemistry and physics. The minimum requirement is 650 in each subject. These minimum scores are required to meet AKU eligibility requirements. Candidates studying or applying from overseas have an option to apply with mathematics in lieu of physics.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA

Candidates applying from Pakistan and overseas must have completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum overall achievement of 32 points.

Candidates should have studied biology and chemistry; and physics or mathematics at either the higher or the standard/subsidiary level.

Additional requirement for students studying / applying from overseas:

To meet PMDC requirements, candidates applying / studying IB overseas must submit in addition to the equivalence certificate, the SAT II (subject test) in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics upon selection. The PMDC minimum requirement is 550 in each subject.

INDIGENOUS HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL CERTIFICATES OF EDUCATION

Candidates having studied in systems of education not mentioned in the earlier sections will be considered only if they provide evidence of satisfactory completion of a Higher Secondary School Certificate of education/equivalent with at least 70% achievement or equivalent. Equivalence from the IBCC stating that the qualifications are equivalent to the High School qualifications in Pakistan will be required.

To meet PMDC requirements, all candidates in this category i.e. following systems of education indigenous to their home country, must submit SAT II (subject test) in biology, chemistry and physics/ mathematics upon selection. The PMDC minimum requirement is 550 in each subject.

Duration of entry test: 2 ½ hours.

AKU Entrance Scholarship:

AKU entrance scholarships are given to 5 top candidates in the AKU’s final merit list which is formed after interviews. The AKU Entrance Scholarships is a fully funded scholarship in which the individual won’t have to pay the tuition fees. He/she will be required only to pay the extra charges. However, to retain this scholarship for the entire course of degree, the candidate has to remain in top 15% of his class . If he/she falls short, the scholarship would not be available for the next academic years. But the candidate can still apply for financial assistance from the university.

Financial Assistance:

For students who are selected and are unable to pay for their cost of education, the University operates a needs-sensitive financial assistance programme.
Through this programme, the University extends financial support, to the extent possible, to students who secure admission to University programmes but are not able to pay tuition and other fees. At the University almost 50% of the student body has received financial assistance to support their education.

• Financial assistance is offered on the basis of demonstrated need as evaluated by the University from data provided by the student, his/her family and other avenues that the University may deem appropriate. It is expected that every student will contribute to some extent towards the cost of education.
• The selected candidates can download the form from AKU’s website.
• The candidate has to fill out his/her entire socio-economic profile that where do they live, their parent(s) profession , the parent(s) salaries, their monthly household expenditure etc.
• In the end you can write the amount of financial aid that you require after attaching necessary documents submit it to university.
• The University’s Financial Assistance Committee comprises of non-University and University personnel who review the application and, based on the evaluation system, determine the level of financial assistance to be awarded. In order to ensure confidentiality and impartiality, the names of the applicants are not disclosed to the Committee members at the time of the review.
• The Aga Khan University will conduct an inquiry to verify information and supporting documents submitted as part of its review process.
• Submission of an application for financial assistance does not guarantee an award of financial assistance.
• Financial assistance offered in one year does not guarantee that financial assistance will be offered in other years. Continuation of financial assistance is conditional upon an annual submission by the student and assessment of financial need by the University.

• The loan can be started to be repaid after graduation otherwise AKU gives a 5 year time after which you can start paying.
